Born and raised in Calgary, Stan developed his investment skills and expertise by drawing from his experiences across various fields, from music to long-distance swimming, competing in the modern pentathlon and working on ranches.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary, Stan introduced cutting-edge technology, achieving significant sales growth. In 1990, he joined RBC Dominion Securities (RBC DS), obtained certifications in options, derivatives, and insurance, and shared his knowledge at leading Universities.
Stan moved to Scotia McLeod in 2002, where he obtained the Chartered Investment Manager designation from the Canadian Securities Institute. With a passion for low volatility and income investing with a personal touch, he started Mirador in 2007, going fully independent in 2012.
Professional musician from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. This taught Stan the importance of listening and teamwork.
Taught investment courses at the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University
Appointed Vice President and Shareholder of RBC DS in 1997, completing the President, Director and Officer (PDO) requirements.
Resides in Calgary and the Longview area with his wife and business partner, Joyce and their two teenage daughters – and a herd of purebred Hereford cattle and other animals.
Joyce is a proud Albertan and lover of the outdoors. She graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in accounting in 1988, completing the Canadian Securities Course, becoming a CA in 1991 and kicking off her finance career.
Joyce developed her expertise in business valuation and investment advisory at KPMG and BJ Services Canada where she sat on the pension committee. From 1994 to 2006, she chaired the Investment Committee of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, appointing new investment managers, reporting on investment performance, and rewriting the statement of Investment Policies and Procedures.
In 2007, she joined Mirador as CFO, overseeing financial continuity, assisting with regulatory compliance, performing a quarterback role between client’s tax, legal and other advisors, and performing general client relationship management, playing a pivotal role in the company’s success.
Part of Joyce’s key role at Mirador is the coordination of client’s tax and legal advisors -ensuring investment, tax and planning needs are met.
Enjoys pilates, reading, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking. Mother to two beautiful teenage daughters.
Achieved the Canadian Business Valuators designation.
Member of the winning Business Policy Team in the Intercollegiate Business Competition at Queens University.
Member of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation Board from 1994 to 2006.
